Why Insure Your Motorboat?

Our policies are designed to protect your motorboat against so that you can sail comfortably with full coverage.

Whether you are a frequent sailor or going on a one-off boat trip, motorboat insurance is recommended in order to cover the cost of any damages, repairs, injuries to passengers or third parties.

Just like owning a car, owning a motorboat is not without its risks. Not only does their high-cost make them a potential target for theft whilst in dock, they are vulnerable to accidents and damage whilst they travel the high seas. Motorboat insurance is a way to cover any potential losses.

Although the area in which you are sailing may not legally require boat insurance, it is still advisable to get cover. If you lease or finance your boat, it is also worth checking in advance whether your bank or lending institution requires boat insurance as a prerequisite. Additionally, if you rent a boat slip or dock, you should make sure that your third party cover is aligned with the marina’s mooring policy.

At Taylor Watkins, our policies are designed to suit the needs of the sailing community, offering comprehensive and flexible cover for both local and offshore sailing.

How Much Can I Insure?

Your motorboat policy will be issued on an agreed value basis, so in the event of a total loss claim you will be paid out what you insured the vessel for.

We offer up to £5 million Third Party Liability cover, up to 25% No Claims Bonus (with some insurers offering the option to protect this) and the option of excess waiver cover on certain policies, meaning you will not pay an excess in the event of a claim.

At Taylor Watkins, our policies are designed to suit the needs of the sailing community, offering comprehensive and flexible cover for both local and offshore sailing.

What is Included with Motorboat Insurance?

We offer bespoke boat insurance policies to suit the client’s specific needs. These are typically dependent on the type of boat and the purpose (e.g. frequent sailing versus a one-off trip). Among the different options, boat insurance options include:

Property Damage Liability: this can help cover any costs of property damage to others if you are found to be liable. For example, if your boat causes damage to another boat. This coverage extends to cover fuel spills that may result in property damage should you be responsible for an accident.

Collision: this will cover you for any damage to your watercraft should you hit another boat or object, if you are hit by something, or if your boat rolls over.

Bodily Injury Liability: this cover can help pay for injuries to others if you are found to be legally liable for an accident.

Medical Payments: any medical expenses caused by an accident suffered whilst boarding, leaving or towing can be covered by a specialised insurance policy.

Uninsured Boaters: this coverage covers you or your passengers should you collide with an uninsured or underinsured boater including both bodily injury claims as well as any property damage.

Comprehensive: Comprehensive motorboat insurance cover can help protect damage to your boat from theft, vandalism, extreme weather and accidents

Person Effects: This type of insurance provides cover for loss or damage of personal property whilst on board your motorboat.
